I used an easy-out kit. It is a really neat kit we have down in our shop, comes with drill bits and centering jigs to ensure you get the hole dead center. Then it has little rods that have ridges running down them which you hammer into the hole you just drilled (rod sizes match drill diameters). Then there is a little thing that you slip over the rod which has a outer diameter that is hex shaped to put a wrench on. The ridges on the metal rods sink into the sides of the drilled hole, for friction, and the hex shaped piece has grooves which correspond to those of the rod. Turn the hex, it turns the rod, it turns the screw! Makes it really easy. The kit is made by Snap-On.
Of course, you could use a reverse thread drill bit and probably get the same result. Be careful though, you've only got a little room in both width (dependent on bit size) and depth (you probably don't want to go deeper than about 4-5 mm).
Did I also mention that I had help (like he did all the drilling) from a guy who has about 18 years proffesional mechanic experience, and about 25 years experience overall?!
Bottom line is be very careful. If you mess up the carb housing, things might get costly.... On the plus side, the original pilot screw is very soft brass, so it drills really easy.
Good luck. Drill straight!
